Lyrics & Book Excerpt

SOBRINA (sings):
When I found your name in the book
I said, “This guy might not be so bad.
Let’s have a look.”
I liked what a saw,
But we’re not “us” anymore
And that’s the way we want it to be
Since sixty three I’ve grown up a lot.
Sometimes I have to ask myself just what have I got.
I don’t know, but it’s right
Because every night
Thirty men are hitting on me.
I’m a woman with individuality.
If I’m the one you add to one
You don’t get two.
If you know what’s good for you
You won’t mess with me
Unless I want to mess around with you.
I’ve learned not to tie myself down.
I go out every night and I paint the town.
I’m having my fun
And anyone
Can come along if they’re free.
Now don’t think that I’ve fallen from grace.
I’ve just decided I don’t want to settle down anyplace.
Love is not on my list.
My definition of bliss
Is to want someone I don’t have to need.
I’m a woman looking for a little romance.
And independent agent who is hard to please.
But if there is a gentleman who catches my glance,
No matter who he is I’ll bring him to his knees.
(SOBRINA starts dancing very slowly and playfully, almost enticing BUD, who looks enticed.)
I’m a woman with incomparability.
My mind is a temple,
My body a shrine.
If lifetime plans are what you have
You better let me be.
Because the time you spend with me is wasted time.
