As You Were – looking for connections between the work of Brené Brown and Daniel Quinn as I revisit them in book clubs. See the introductory post for what this is all about. In this post, I look at:
- Daniel Quinn Book Club — no reading this week
- Brené Brown Book Club — Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts., session 8 reading: Part Three: Braving Trust

Dare to Lead: Brave Work. Tough Conversations. Whole Hearts.
Part Three: Braving Trust
“Building courage with a partner or in a team is more powerful than doing it alone.” Echoes Quinn’s focus on tribal social structures in contrast with either individuals or what our culture typically considers organizations.
“While trust is inherently relational and most pronounced in practice with other people, the foundation of trust with others is really based on our ability to trust ourselves.” Echoes Quinn posing the Leaver mindset as one which trusts the universe, combined with his main “what to do” advice being for people to know themselves well and find what is uniquely theirs to contribute.
